About the Artist
Jean-Michel Basquiat was born on December 22, 1960, in Brooklyn, New York. He ﬁrst attracted attention for his graﬃti work under the name “SAMO” in New York City. He sold custom clothing and postcards featuring his artwork on the streets before his painting career took oﬀ. He collaborated with Andy Warhol in the mid eighties, which resulted in a show of their work. Basquiat originals have always raised high number at auction, however in 2017 a Japanese billionaire broke the auction house records when he brought an untitled painting of a skull, for $110.5 million.
