About the Artist
Banksy, a street artist whose identity is unknown, is believed to have been born in Bristol, England in the late 1970’s. He rose to prominence for his exciting and provocative stencilled pieces in the late 1990’s. Banksy’s artwork is characterised by striking images, often combined with words or slogans, he often engages political themes, and popular subjects include rates, apes, policeman, members of the royal family, and children. Banksy’s worldwide fame has transformed his artwork from acts of protest and vandalism to sought after high art pieces. More recently his interest has been increased with the release of the documentary “Exit Through A Gift Shop”, which premiered at the Sundance Film Festival, was nominated for an Academy Award.
